Timber Frame Specification
Avilion Sustainable Homes have developed a pre-insulated panel that is enclosed by a factory fitted, reflective vapour barrier on one side and OSB board with a reflective breather membrane on its external face. This means that the external wall panels are fully fabricated in our factory and the insulation quilt and vapour barrier are fitted in an ideal dry environment. A 30mm service void is created to facilitate first fix of electrical wiring and plumbing. Battens are supplied for fixing plasterboard on site and this can be taped and filled or skimmed with plaster as preferred by the client. This void is also a vital part of the insulation system as it permits the reflective vapour barrier to function at maximum efficiency.
We offer various types of panel construction that will depend upon the client’s budget, the desired U value and the method of external cladding required. The U value is a measure of the heat loss in Watts per square metre through the walls of the building. The lower the U value, the lower the loss. Our standard system achieves a U value of 0.22 W/m2K but this can be upgraded to achieve a U value of 0.19 or 0.14 W/m2K by careful selection of insulation and construction and depending on budget.
Conventional building methods routinely employed in UK and France currently only achieve U value levels of in the range 0.30 – 0.35 W/m2K.
