Hybrid Timber Frame
As an Anglo-French business it makes sense for us to incorporate the best that both countries can offer.
With that in mind we produce high quality, super insulated timber frame panels in the UK. From France we are able to add elements of traditional post and beam carpentry. These come together to create what we call 'Hybrid Timber Frame'.
It boils down to Avilion's ability to offer you three options for your new house or extension:
Option 1 - Timber Frame
Latest generation high quality, super insulated timber frame. Here your structure is built using a timber panel construction and trussed roof. All the components are treated, engineered softwood. When finished no elements of the structure remain visible.
Option 2 - Post and Beam construction
In this case your house structure is 100% solid timber posts and beams. These are fixed together in the main using mortise and tenon joints and oak pegs. For the full effect of this type of construction the frame would remain exposed internally wherever possible. Using this method we can also supply garages, barns and outbuildings.
Option 3 - Hybrid Timber Frame
Simply put this is a mix of options 1 & 2, i.e. the majority of the structure remains timber panel construction, with elements of solid exposed timbers. The benefit to you is the beauty of exposed traditional woodworking without the extra cost of a complete post and beam frame. For example we have had clients request large chunky oak ceiling beams to add feature and character in main living areas. Another client has two Queen post trusses with oak purlins to support the roof, providing a fantastic feature, while increasing useable roof space without blowing the budget.
Anyone interested in building a house will have seen the wonderful constructions achieved using 'green oak' frames - television programmes and magazines often feature this type of build. Unfortunately these spectacular results are normally associated with a hefty price tag.
With our base in the heart of the heavily forested Southwest of France, Avilion benefits from locally sourced Oak, Chestnut and Douglas fir timber. Combine this with the traditional craftmanship available to us and you will see why we are able to offer construction solutions to suit a wide range of budgets.
